ESTATE/CONSIGNMENT OF STAMP COLLECTIONS
BY THE EDMONTON STAMP CLUB

ESTATE.jpg

The Edmonton Stamp Club recognizes that there comes a time when collectors want to sell their stamp collections or holdings.  Additionally, many stamp collections are inherited by family members or other designates.  The question is, “How to liquidate or sell?”.

THE EDMONTON STAMP CLUB CAN HELP!

First:

  • Organize the collection to some degree

  • Document key items of the stamp collection

  • Provide a “best guess value” of the total holding

  • Consider all options of selling

  • Consider tax implications

Estate Consignment to the ESC Process:

  • Contact the ESC (email or telephone) and arrange for an appraiser to review the collection.

  • If the collection is of significant value, the ESC (by agreement) will assist by contacting a suitable Auction House to handle the collection or by contacting an outside source for the purchase at fair market value.

  • If the Stamp Collection is appropriate for the ESC to handle and consignment is agreed upon, the terms are 16.5% of the selling price at the ESC Summer Auction.

  • Once the collection is received by the ESC, experienced volunteers will break down the collection to maximize the return on the consignment.

  • This process may take a few months to finalize and once completed, payment is made to the consigner.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

Fair market value of a stamp collections versus catalogue value significantly differs with prices realized due to the bidding process.
