This Years Show Theme Was:
**Edmonton's Hockey History Then & Now**

 

 

 

This was a national level show featuring multiple frames of

Edmonton’s Hockey History, plus nationally judged competitive

worldwide stamp exhibits.

16 stamp Dealers attended the show this year, as well as

guest speakers from across Canada, who shared their expertise on

Postal History.

Meet The 2023 Show Exhibit Judges

Sam Chiu

PhD, FRPSC, FRPSL, FIP Jury Fellow

Sam Chiu started collecting stamps in childhood. Besides stamps, his interests are in China and Hong Kong postal history, postal stationery, plus various themes and postcards. An avid exhibitor, Sam has received over 130 medals in national and international competitions, which included 37 Large Gold and 48 Gold medals.

He has exhibited in nine different classes, and his exhibits have reached at least the Gold medal level. He is the only Canadian to win an American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors (AAPE) Sapphire Award and one of only two Canadians to win an AAPE Diamond Award. He is an accredited judge with the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) and a Jury Fellow at the International Philatelic Association (FIP). He served on Canada Post’s Stamp Advisory Committee from 2006 to 2012. He is also a bureau member at FIP’s postal stationery commission. Sam has a PhD in International Management from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. He has been President of RPSC since June 2022. He is a Fellow of both the RPSC and the Royal Philatelic Society London. He is the editor of the Journal of Chinese Philately for the China Philatelic Society of London.

David Piercey

David Piercey is a Canadian national level exhibitor and judge and former Chair of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) Judging and Exhibiting Program in Canada. He was elected a Fellow of the Society in 2010 and served on its Board of Directors 2008-16, during which he developed guidelines for the accreditation of new National shows and the current RPSC Exhibit Feedback Form.

 

An author, he writes the column “Let’s Talk Exhibiting” for The Canadian Philatelist and the column “The Philatelic Bookshelf” for Canadian Stamp News. He has recently had his book on exhibiting published by the RPSC and released at CAPEX 22. He has several recent award-winning research articles on Newfoundland postal history in BNA Topics, The PHSC Journal, Maple Leaves, and The Canadian Philatelist. He judges regularly at national level shows throughout Canada and the Pacific Northwest, has judged at the The American Philatelic Society Stamp Show twice and recently at CAPEX 22 in Toronto, the world’s first one-frame international championship exhibition.

Arlene Sullivan

Arlene Sullivan is a collector, exhibitor, and national level philatelic judge from Courtenay, BC. She is a member of several philatelic societies and study groups including the Postal History Society of Canada, the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), and the British North America Philatlic Society, and has been on the board of the RPSC.

 

Arlene’s collecting interests include the postal history of New Westminster, BC; Canadian rates, routes and markings; unusual modern rate covers; and an ongoing study of the nineteenth-century "Peace and Commerce" issue of France.

 

She is currently working on a postcard exhibit on the streetcars of New Westminster, and is finally getting around to those shoeboxes lurking in the study closet.
